The Government of Canada and the Canadian motor vehicle industry have developed a program of voluntary fuel consumption standards for new vehicles sold in Canada through to 1985. Legislation has been introduced in Parliament to formalize this program and extend it beyond 1985 ... Current trends indicate that the 1985 standard will be exceeded and work is presently being focused on improving on-road fuel economy under Canadian driving conditions.
